Keeping Donors Engaged on Your Giving Page
So, your marketing efforts are paying off and people are flocking to your donations page in record numbers. Pats on the back and chocolate muffins for everyone, right?
Well sadly it looks like your potential donors are backing out at the last moment. They check out your page, but don’t take the final step of dipping into their pocket to make a donation.
Don’t worry. We have a few tips on how to spruce up your donation page so that donors will hang around long enough to contribute to your good cause.
Keeping Donors Engaged – Colourful and Interesting
First make sure that your donations page is colourful, full of bright and engaging pictures and has some fun text.
Although your charity may deal with some serious issues, it can help to focus on the positive benefits that donations can bring at this point. An interesting video can be particularly effective here, if you have one.
Don’t forget to include a big Thank You! on the page in advance of donations.
Keeping Donors Engaged – Be Clear about Donations
Be as clear and specific about what the money for donations will be used for.
If your charity has a number of upcoming projects and it is unclear how current donations will be used, choose a popular project from the past to illustrate how a donation is broken down.
Also be very clear about the methods of donations. Let donors know if they are making a one-off payment or if they are signing up to give regularly.
Ensure that the codes they need to make donations stand out on the page and are bright and clear.
Keeping Donors Engaged – Number of Options
It can be helpful to offer donors a number of options.
Allowing them to choose the amount can mean that your charity can get a number of small donations from people who may have contributed nothing if there was a set donation.
Innovate and experiment where you can on your giving pages. This can vary from campaign to campaign, but could include something like a suggestion box for fundraising events, e.g a month-long jelly diet or ‘wearing socks as gloves’ week.
