Stop Funding Hate Campaign – Censorship or Conscience
The ‘Stop funding Hate’ campaign calls upon brands to stop advertising with media outlets that it believes promotes prejudice: namely the Daily Mail, Daily Express, and The Sun. Some charities have recently been caught up in this debate and whether you believe this is unjustified censorship or simply an alignment of brand ethics, if your charity hasn’t yet had this debate, it needs to.
There is constructive argument on both sides of the table on this issue and it’s not for me to say who’s right or wrong. It’s a charity decision and I expect that each charity may have a unique perspective on this debate. Examine your charities principles and core values, why not open the debate up to your supporters. Ask them how they feel about this issue, lets face it, if your going to lose existing supporters you need to weigh that up against any potential advertising gains.
