Recently we published a blog post discussing the basics of what Near Field Communication is and how it works. We see it as another future method to make donations easier. We discovered an interesting article that details our own thoughts regarding text donations and simple digital transactions using NFC. The article goes into detail regarding the United States top players in the ‘digital wallet’ revolution, view the article on Mashable here.   We found the mention of how buzz in campaigns begin to die down but with the use of this new piece of tech the ‘digital wallet’ providers can partner with non-profit organisations to help continue support for their causes via small regular donations very interesting. This is similar to SMS donations but with NFC there are advantages in areas such as events where donors can use their phone to scan a sticker for example on a fundraisers t-shirt to make a transaction quick and seamlessly.

In today’s digital world many already have their accounts linked up to their phones in order to make transactions using various shopping apps available on smartphones thus digital wallets will become more popular and widely used.

Aside from NFC technology other platforms offered by PayPal, Visa and American Express each use their own approach that fall under the ‘digital wallet’ umbrella by offering secure apps and services to authorise transactions. An example closer to home is Barclays Pingit mobile payment system service, which also like Google Wallet uses aforementioned NFC. This mobile trend which is already in use within the UK is sure to become a major tool for all third sector non-profit organisations in the months to come.
